Mental Exhaustion, Hunger and 25 Medications
I've been on my own now for a few weeks in Columbus. My daughter had to go out of town on business and my folks are two hours drive away. I'm not used to having to take so much medication. I'm often exhausted, have extreme nausea and difficulty keeping food down. In addition, I have to take over 25 medications daily just to stay alive and will have to take them for the rest of my life. Sometimes I'm so overwhelmed that I just feel like giving up. It's extremely difficult. I've been waiting for a week for my doctor to return phone calls to the pharmacy here because I've run out of some of the medication and I can feel the impact that it's having on my body. It scares me because I can feel my body giving out. I'm starting to get very angry that it's cost me literally hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses and a complete loss of income since last September 2006. I'm angry because of paying all of this money and going through all of this that my damn doctor can't even return a pharmacy phone call. Is that asking too much? I don't think so. We, as Americans pay through the nose for health care and something needs to be done. I might even lose my insurance because I literally have no cash and can't afford to pay for the insurance now. I've also had to not get some of my medications filled because I just don't have enough money. It's embarrassing, humiliating and it's scary. I have so much more compassion for poor people and older people who are also suffering from the high cost of medical care. If I can make it through this, I want to become more active in politics to try to change things. Fortunately, I've developed a great relationship with Frances Strickland the first lady or "Mrs. Governor" of Ohio and also have a good relationship with Bill and Hillary Clinton, so I hope that I can do more to help people. What are your thoughts on health care today? I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts. As always, I love you guys! I so appreciate everything from you!xoxoo,Cheryl Shuman
