It sounds like Science Fiction, but it's completly real, thousands of Americans will get a chip implanted in their arm. This chip will contain information that might be vital if they ever end up in a hospital, doctors will be able to read the information off of that chip. It's the same technology that is applied on pets over here, but chipping people is something else.

A big needle in your arm and then the chip just slides into your body. Heartpatient Jerry Joel permanantly wears a 1.5 cm long chip. If he ever gets a heartattack the hospital can check his chip by scanning it like so **. The chip doesn't give off a signal in your body, but if you hold a scanner within 10 cm of it, it will start working. It releases a number which belongs to a website that contains the medical files of the patient... Handy if a patient is confused, demented or unconcious. But there is also criticism. Is there a possibility of abuse by that one company that manages all the medical files? The patientorganisation thinks it's an eery thought.

But over a hundred hospitals are participating and a lot of patients are saying; bring it on. And different health insurances are already giving people these chips for free. The technology keeps moving forward, in a few years this chip will tell us what's going on with our bloodpressure and heartrate.
